Dancer Program
1st-3rd Grade by September 30th, 2023

Ballet
Ballet is the foundation of all forms of dance. This class will focus on the fundamentals of ballet technique, including correct posture, placement, balance, strength and flexibility. In addition to a knowledge of proper terminology, grace and fluidity will be emphasized. Solid ballet technique is essential in a dancer’s progression and improvement in all aspects of dance. Dancers will perform in the Captivation Dance Affiliates Annual Studio Showcase.
Jazz
Jazz dance allows for more freedom of movement and is a fun way in which a dancer may express their creativity. As a derivation from ballet, jazz dance contains the use of parallel lines and bold, dramatic movement including contractions and isolations. Instructors will use a variety of music, including upbeat and lyrical styles. Although it is not required, dancers will find it beneficial to study ballet in conjunction with jazz. Dancers will perform in the Captivation Dance Affiliates Annual Studio Showcase.
Hip Hop
Hip hop is a fun, energetic class which is a fusion of both jazz and street dance. While focusing on dynamics, rhythm and isolations, dancers will feel free to express themselves in an athletic nature. Although it is not required, dancers will find it beneficial to study jazz in conjunction with hip hop. Dancers will perform in the Captivation Dance Affiliates Summer Showcase.
Tap
Tap is a very percussive style which allows the dancer to learn about musicality and rhythm. Dancers will learn basic fundamentals of tap technique including terminology, correct body placement and posture. In addition to learning individual steps, the dancer will gain an understanding of how to combine steps together in many different rhythmic combinations. Captivation Dance Affiliates has developed a specific curriculum which includes both Broadway and rhythmic styles of tap. Dancers will perform in the Captivation Dance Affiliates Annual Studio Showcase.

Musical Theatre
Musical Theatre Classes focus on applying and bringing together the disciplines of singing, acting, and dancing, to create a well-rounded performer. In these weekly one hour classes, students will sing, dance and act the best of Broadway, while studying characterization, vocalization, then adding in choreography. These "triple threats" in training will benefit from putting acting, singing and dancing together for the ultimate musical theatre experience. Dancers will perform in the Captivation Dance Affiliates Annual Studio Showcase.
Tumbling
Our Tumbling Program consists of classes which teach the basics of floor tumbling, in addition to stretching and conditioning exercises. Students are divided by skill level – Beginning (Level 1), Intermediate (Level 2) and Intermediate-Advanced. (Level 3). Placement is decided by the instructor upon evaluation. Dancers will not perform in the Captivation Dance Affiliates Annual Studio Showcase.
