DRESS CODE

 

The Captivation Dance Affiliates Dress Code is designed to create unity and promote focused learning in the classroom.  By wearing the correct attire, it ensures the instructor will see if the dancer is utilizing proper alignment & correct muscles in class.

 

We ask that all students to clearly write their name in both their shoes and dance wear. Please keep jewelry to a minimum for the safety of the dancer and their peers. Also, it is important for all dancers to wear their hair pulled back and out of the face & eyes so that they may see and dance more easily.  A dance bag with extra hair pins and hair ties is suggested. 

 

 

GIRLS

Baby Ballet (Ages 2–3)

Dancers may wear pink ballet slippers with any leotard and pink or white tights. Ballet skirts, tutus, and dance dresses are welcome. Hair should be pulled back and secured away from the face and eyes.

Storybook Ballet Class (Ages 3-6)

Dancers should wear pink ballet slippers with white or pink tights and any color leotard. Ballet tutus and skirts are welcome. Hair should be pulled back neatly and secured away from the face and eyes.

Princess Ballet Class (Ages 3-5)

Dancers may wear princess dresses or ballet costumes along with pink ballet slippers with white or pink tights. Hair should be pulled back and secured away from the face and eyes.​

Jazz/Tap Combo Class (Ages 3-5)

Dancers should wear tan jazz shoes (no laces) and black patent tap shoes. Tan tights and any color leotard or form fitting tank top, jazz pants, Capri’s, dance shorts required. Ballet tutus and skirts are welcome. Hair should be pulled back and secured away from the face and eyes.

Ballet/Tap Combo (Ages 3-5)

Dancers should wear pink ballet slippers and black patent tap shoes. Any leotard is acceptable, with pink or white tights. Ballet skirts or tutus are welcome. Hair should be pulled back and secured away from the face and eyes.

Jazz/Tumble Combo Class (Ages 4-6)

Dancers should wear tan jazz shoes (no laces) for the jazz portion. Any leotard or form-fitting tank top is acceptable, paired with jazz pants, capris, or dance shorts. If tights are worn, they must be convertible to allow for bare feet during tumbling. Hair should be pulled back and secured away from the face and eyes. No shoes are needed for the tumbling portion.​

All Tap Classes (1st grade and up)

Dancers should wear black tie oxford tap shoes. Tights may be tan, black, or pink. Any color leotard or a form-fitting tank top is acceptable, paired with jazz pants, capris, or dance shorts. Hair should be pulled back and secured away from the face and eyes.​

All Hip-Hop & Hippity Hop Classes

Dancers should wear clean tennis shoes with baggy shorts or exercise pants/capris. Baggy shirts are allowed. No jeans, please. Note: Black, low-top slip-on shoes will be required for Showcase.

All Jazz, Broadway Babies & Musical Theatre Classes

Dancers should wear tan jazz shoes (no laces). Tights may be tan, black, or pink. Any color leotard or a form-fitting tank top is acceptable, paired with jazz pants, capris, or dance shorts. Hair should be pulled back and secured away from the face and eyes.

All Ballet Classes (1st grade and up)

Dancers should wear pink ballet shoes (either split sole or full sole), a black leotard, and pink tights. Hair must be pulled back in a secure bun. Pointe work is available for dancers age 12 and up with teacher approval.

All Tumbling and Tumble Tots Classes

No shoes or tights are required. Dancers should wear any leotard or form-fitting tank top paired with jazz pants, capris, or dance shorts. Hair should be pulled back and secured away from the face and eyes.

 

All Pom Classes

Dancers should wear clean tennis shoes with any leotard or form-fitting tank top, paired with jazz pants, capris, or dance/cheer shorts. Hair should be pulled back and secured away from the face and eyes.

Note: White, low-top slip-on shoes will be required for Showcase.

BOYS

All Ballet Classes
Black ballet shoes with black tights or tight-fitting black dance pants and a white shirt.

All Jazz & Musical Theatre Classes
Black jazz shoes with shorts or sweatpants and a fitted t-shirt or tank.

All Tap Classes
Black tie oxford tap shoes with shorts or sweatpants and a fitted t-shirt or tank.

All Tumbling Classes
No shoes or tights are required. Dancers may wear shorts or sweatpants with a fitted t-shirt or tank. Hair should be pulled back and secured away from the face and eyes.

All Hip-Hop, Hippity Hop & Pom Classes
Clean tennis shoes with baggy shorts or exercise pants/capris. Baggy shirts are allowed. No jeans, please.
